Marinella Paderni

Marinella Paderni was born in Milan in 1964. She is a contemporary art critic and independent curator. She teaches Phenomenology of Contemporary Arts at the "Carrara" Fine Arts Academy in Bergamo. She has curated various exhibitions on the portrayal of contemporary landscapes, such as Alto Impatto Ambientale, 2003; Suburbia, 2004 (in collaboration with Marco Senaldi); Ground Zero. Lo spazio di nulla, 2005; and the site-specific exhibitions at the Botanical Gardens in Parma (Open Air from 2005 to 2008, in collaboration with Isotta Saccani).
Her activity as a curator also involves video art and photography. She is currently editing a book dedicated to photography as part of the “Laboratori” series published by Johan & Levi.
In 2008 she curated the Same Democracy project (in collaboration with Elvira Vannini), the first Italian exhibition in the theme of artistic and curatorial practices, inspired by the open source model, and a public project on the theme of visionary realism in art, architecture and cultural economics, entitled We have a dream (Spazio Gerra, Reggio Emilia, in collaboration with Luca Molinari and Pier Luigi Sacco).
She has held various thematic conferences on contemporary art, with particular focus on the phenomenology between different cultural sectors. She was a correspondent for the international contemporary art magazine Tema Celeste, and has contributed to Il Resto del Carlino, and is currently contribuing to Frieze art magazine. From 1988 to 1994 she worked in fashion, collaborating with the designer Jean-Paul Gaultier as director of the Junior Gaultier product line.
