Doris Salcedo

Artist, born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1958. She has been Director of the School of Plastic Arts, at the Institute of Fine Arts of Cali (Instituto de Bellas Artes, 1987-88). She was professor of Sculpture and Art Theory at the National University of Colombia, Bogotá (Universidad Nacional de Colombia, 1989-91).
She has received the Penny McCall Foundation Grant in 1993 and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation Grant in 1995, the Ordway Prize, Penny McCall Foundation (2005). She currently lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia.
A selection of her personal exhibitions include: Doris Salcedo, Camden Arts Centre, London (2001); Doris Salcedo, Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2005) and Shibboleth, Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, London (2007). Some recent works exhibited as part of group exhibitions are: Constructing a Poetic Universe: The Diane and Bruce Halle Collection of Latin American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2007), NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith, The Menil Collection, Houston (2008) and What Matters, Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts (2009-2010).
