How, why and for whom art is produced today?

|

Ctalks return to Milan, the conversations of the festival of Contemporary art, to understand the art of our time. First date on December 14 at 4.30 pm in collaboration with the University IULM.

Commissioning art: how, why and for whom art is produced today” is the title of the first of a new round of Ctalks, that after the great participation in the meetings last year, returned to Milan with a meeting organized in collaboration with the University IULM.

The meeting of Tuesday December 14 at 4:30 pm will get to the heart of some key issues related to the mechanisms that drive the production of contemporary art: how are they changing in times of crisis? Which new pressures are coming?

Different points of view are invited to discuss this scenario: Claudia Dwek, co-chairman of Sotheby's Italy, and senior director of Modern and Contemporary Art , the artist Stefano Arienti, Chiara Bertola, artistic director of the Foundation HangarBicocca and Pasquale Leccese, the president and manager of Start Milano, with the journalist of Il Sole 24 ORE Marilena Pirrelli, who will coordinate the debate. Pier Luigi Sacco will introduce the meeting , culture economist, professor in Faculty of Arts, market and heritage culture of University IULM Milano and member of the scientific direction of the Festival of Contemporary Art , along with Carlos Basualdo and Angela Vettese.

Today the contemporary art is aimed to a wider audience, and its contents are more varied. There is less awe and more willing to participate.” - says Sacco – “ It’s said that, especially at this moment of big difficulty of public finance, art suffers because the public opinion has not matured enough sensitivity to recognize it as a real priority. We are facing a new situation, in which different channels must be searched, in which the production logics will probably be changed in next years”. Faced with the prospect of changes in how art is produced, which intersect the emergence of new forms of patronage and collecting in a position to exert its influence on the global art system, it becomes even more important to understand why and for whom, so the role of art in our society : “It becomes increasingly challenging for artists to be able to reach new audiences because the emotion of letting in people in the game, who are not already tuned on this issue, and also giving art an ability to open new spaces of dialogue, is becoming a real urgency for many artists, as well as a great opportunity for the company.
