Matters of the heart at the Serpentine

|

The wonderful Pavilion designed by Jean Nouvel for the Serpentine Gallery in London it just became reality. The gallery is co-directed by Julia Peyton and Hans-Ulrich Obrist, speakers of the festival of Contemporary art in 2009 and 2010.

The Pavilion, which celebrates the 40th year of the prestigious English space, is based in Kensington Gardens with its airy and open spaces. As the tenth in a series of similar structures, it chose red as symbolic colour of the city, with its phoneboxes and double-decker buses.

The first exhibition is an artwork of Christian Boltanski, an outsider in contemporary art. His installation, The Heart Archive, is an involving experience that recorded thousands people’s heartbeats, travelling in various cities around the world. Visitors are invited to leave their own too.
