On the 7th October, Manifesta, the itinerant biennale and partner of the festival since the first edition, will be back. After the Italian edition, which took place in Trento, Bolzano, Fortezza and Rovereto in 2008, this year Manifesta will stop off in Spain in Murcia and Cartagena.
One of the innovations of this edition of Manifesta is the principle of “collective curating”, which involves three curatorial groups coming from three different regions: Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum (Egypt) Chamber of Public Secrets (Scandinavia, Italy, U.K and Lebanon) and tranzit.org (Austria, The Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia).
This year’s theme is focused on the dialogue between the Region of Murcia with North Africa, especially the Maghreb region. The path stretches across different important points in the city, retelling, through the eyes of the artists, the culture of the south of Spain which is a melting pot of Latin, Islamic and Jewish traditions. Murcia will therefore become a conceptual site to construct a contemporary value system of sharing and interaction can be built.
The artists Tris Vonna-Michell, Kim Sung Hwan and Ryan Gander (who was one of the protagonists of the third edition of the festival, entitled “OPERE/works”, in a talk with Ilaria Gianni) will participate in this transnational journey.
